Reclaimed rain water tar levels?
I recently installed a gutter system and water retrieval system on my house. One 200 gallon tank and one 400 gallon tank. I have a newer home of about 5 years with a pitched tar shingled roof. Always hot and baking as I live in the desert SW of the United States.
I was wondering, as the shingles are somewhat new, will the rain water collected in the tanks be contaminated in any way as to harm my plants when I water them with reclaimed water? Tonight is the first time it has rained here since in installed the new system, thusly I have not watered my plants with the reclaimed water. I was just wondering if any other folk have had any problems, or poisoned plants with tar shingled roofs. Thanks.
it depends on if the rain has cleaned the tar roof before you installed your system if ti has you should be ok. if theres any doubt dump the first 2 rains. but i think it will be ok :0)
