PROBLEM WITH HEAVY CONDENSATION……………….?

A friend of mine has recently purchased a property that had been fully renovated 3 years ago.
On inspecting the attic / loft space for them i notice at one end a huge build up of condensation on the underfelt and roof beams. Some of the timbers are quite saturated. On further inspection i found that the bathroom ventilation hose, which comes up into the loft, had been shoved down the wall cavity and covered over with loft insullation, so this had been venting for 3 years into the loft also there had been no roof vents fitted anywhere to allow fresh air in. Having now rectified these problems by fitting vents and putting the bathroom vent to the outside, i still have a problem with drying the roof space out. Will a Dehumidifier help the problem and will it have any effect during such cold weather. Thanks All.

hi jim …im a builder in whilst a dehumidifier will help …they work best in an enclosed area ..the roof will be letting in fresh air so th dehumidifierer will be drawing that air so dont expect too much …but now you have sorted out the worst it will drnaturallyly …however make sure the insulation does not go any further than the wallplate as it will block any soffit vents ..building regs say you should have 200mm of insulation
